I walk across a city square at dawn. The streets are empty and the buildings look taller than usual, their windows glowing with faint turquoise light. A thin fog hangs close to the ground, moving like a slow tide. My footsteps create ripples in it, as if Iโm walking through shallow water.
At the center of the square stands a fountain made of smooth obsidian. There is no water. Instead, small silver coins float above the basin, spinning slowly in a perfect circle. Each coin reflects a different landscape. Mountains, beaches, forests, places I cannot name.
I reach out and touch one. It expands into a doorway of shimmering light. Without hesitation I step through and find myself standing on a balcony overlooking a vast cliffside. Below me stretches an ocean the color of deep sapphire. Waves roll in slow motion like the world is half asleep.
Behind me, a bell rings. I turn and see a white tower rising into the clouds. Its walls are covered with carvings of birds in flight. I walk inside and the interior spirals upward without stairs. A gentle wind lifts me and carries me higher through the hollow tower.
At the top, an open chamber waits. The ceiling is gone, replaced by a sky full of motionless stars. A table stands in the middle, holding a simple notebook. Its pages flutter though there is no wind. I open it and see lines written in a language I donโt know.
One sentence becomes clear. It glows softly and rearranges itself into a single word that feels familiar. Before I manage to say it aloud, the tower tilts and gravity disappears. I float upward toward the silent stars.
Just as I reach them, everything fades into soft grey. I wake with the feeling that the dream left me a message I was too slow to read.
