I walk along a narrow path carved into the side of a mountain. The night sky above is unusually close, as if the stars are resting just above my head. They pulse gently, not flickering, but breathing. The air tastes crisp and clean, almost sweet.
The path leads to a plateau where hundreds of lanterns hang from invisible strings. They float at different heights and sway in a slow rhythm. I reach out to one and it drifts toward me like it recognizes my touch. Inside the lantern there is not a flame but a tiny cloud swirling in soft amber light.
When I lift the lantern, the cloud expands and the plateau vanishes. I stand in a large meadow at dawn. The grass is silver and bends as if greeting the sunrise. In the distance I see a river that glows like liquid gold. Its surface is so smooth it looks like a mirror.
I approach the river and kneel by the bank. Instead of seeing my reflection, I see a younger version of myself running across a field, laughing in slow motion. The image is clear and vivid. When I touch the water, time inside the reflection stops.
The scene fades and a single lotus emerges from the river, floating without roots. Its petals are white with a faint blue glow. The flower opens and reveals a small crystal. The crystal rises into the air and hums softly, almost like a lullaby.
The meadow begins to dissolve into mist. The crystal spins faster, creating a circle of light around me. The world shifts and I find myself standing at the edge of the original mountain path again, lanterns still gently swaying above.
I look back to the sky and notice that one of the stars has moved closer, shining brighter than the rest. It feels like it’s watching me. I blink once and wake up with the calm certainty that the dream remembered something I had forgotten.
