I walk through a sunlit train yard at noon. The air is warm and smells of iron and wildflowers growing between the tracks. The trains are old, painted in faded colors. Some of them hum softly, as if they are dreaming.
I approach one carriage with wide windows. When I touch the door, it opens without a sound. Inside there are no seats, only a long hallway covered with soft moss. The walls are lined with vines bearing tiny white flowers. They sway gently as I pass, even though there is no wind.
At the end of the hallway I find a small room with a window on each side. Outside one window I see a snowy mountain range. Outside another I see a summer meadow filled with bees and tall yellow grass. The two scenes exist at the same moment, side by side.
On a table stands a cup made of clay. Warm steam rises from it. I lift the cup and take a sip. The taste is familiar but impossible to name. The moment I drink, the two windows blend into a single view. Snow falls softly over the meadow, melting into golden petals before touching the ground.
A figure appears in the doorway. They wear a simple coat and hold a lantern that glows like a tiny sun. I cannot see their face, but I don’t feel afraid. They nod once and gesture toward the cup in my hand, as if telling me I’m ready.
The room tilts gently. The train begins to move even though I never heard an engine. The moss under my feet shifts and transforms into soft sand. I step onto it instinctively and feel sunlight on my back.
When I look behind me, the train is already far away, gliding across the horizon like a memory leaving slowly.
I wake up with the sensation that the dream offered me a destination, but let me choose the direction myself.
